Just Married

In my 30 before 30 list I had mentioned that I would like to decorate my wedding reception someday. Unfortunately, due to a series of mishaps we had to postpone the kind of reception we originally planned. That did not stop us from having a small celebration at home though.

Being introverts, my husband and I are not very good at throwing a party, so we tried making the house look livelier by decorating it with something to talk about, like photos on the wall!

Each photo has a story to tell, like the first bouquet he gave me, his “I’m sorry” flowers, our first pet, his favourite photo of us, my bachelorette party, etc.

The wall opposite the TV has nothing interesting on it, so we decorated it with hearts and Mr. & Mrs. cutouts.

And of course, what is a wedding without the “Just Married” banner?

What about the favours? We had less than a week to plan the party, which is why we settled for a consumable wedding favour, like cupcakes. We thought of macaroons first, but I did not have enough time to create small boxes, neither were they easily available.

We got the cupcakes from Cinnabon and the boxes from another store, whilst the cupcake toppers and the “Thank you!” tags are all DIYs.

After the party we also gave our three witnesses different gifts according to their personality and a framed photo of the three of them together.

Hopefully, after a year or two there will be an updated wedding celebration that I have decorated the way I’ve dreamed it would be. Until then, let us raise our glasses in a toast to married life! ♥

Ms. Yesterday Became Mrs. Today

A month ago, I finally tied the knot with the person who does not only brings out the best in me but also the bitch in me. Sometimes I hate him but most of the time I love him, so when he brought up the marriage discussion last year, I said “yes”.

Our life together is not perfect. We’re not rich, neither we are poor. He doesn’t believe in God, and I do. He’s a vegetarian and I am not. He takes care of me, I take care of him. He loves me, and I love him too. We wanted to be together as long as it is humanly possible and so we made it official by signing the contract. ♥

Treasured Seconds

He was about to enter the room when he saw her pass the corridor admiring the sky. She caught him staring at her but he left his actions undeniable. He continued dismissing the world as she continued embracing it. They walked pass each other leaving the sky as their witness after the wind had whispered. ♥

Tofu Puttanesca

The disadvantage of being with a vegetarian is at some point in your life, you will feel like you’re running out of something good to cook and you’ll find yourself converting all your favourite non-veg recipes to vegetarian!

Ingredients:

1 block extra firm tofu

1 can chopped tomatoes

1 or half a jar of sliced black olives

2-3 tbsp. capers

2 tbsp. Olive oil

3 large minced garlic

1 small chopped onion

1-2  chopped red chilis

1 tsp. dried oregano

Procedure:

  1. Sauté garlic, onion, capers and olives for 3 minutes.
  2. Add the tofu, stir and let it cook until lightly browned.
  3. In a medium-low heat, put in the tomatoes, oregano and chilis and let it simmer uncovered for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Adjust the taste to your liking by seasoning it with salt and pepper.

Serve! ♥

Farfalle Genovese

Hi, my name is Kate and I am a Jamie Oliver fan.

This Jamie Oliver recipe is very easy to make. The key is to use as good quality pesto as you can get from your local store and to not overcook the beans (why the hell would you?)

Ingredients:

9 oz dried farfalle

4 oz french beans

1 small red potato

1 oz Parmesan cheese

3 tbsp pesto

Sea salt

Black pepper

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Procedure:

  1. Cook your farfalle in boiling salted water according to packet instructions. Give it an occasional stir to make sure none of the pasta is sticking together. Meanwhile…
  2. Top the green beans and put to one side. Scrub the potato then slice it as thinly as possible.
  3. About 5 minutes before the pasta is done, add the beans and potato slices to the pot. Simmer until the pasta is cooked.
  4. When your pasta is cooked and the beans and potatoes are tender, scoop out a cupful of the water to keep, then drain everything in a colander.
  5. Return the pasta and veg to the pan. Add the pesto and stir everything together. If the sauce is a bit thick, add a little splash of your reserved cooking water to thin it out slightly.
  6. Stir in half the Parmesan. Taste and season with a good pinch of salt and pepper. Drizzle over some extra virgin olive oil then cover with a lid to keep warm.

I know, I need better photos. ♥

Where Do Broken Hearts Go?

Beloved Ladies,

Let’s not overfeed ourselves whenever our heart aches, because no matter how much we fill our stomach our hearts will stay empty. ♥

Lots of love,

Kate

BP Decorations and Food

One thing that I planned to have for my party as a ceiling decoration were balloons. I was hoping I could have helium-filled black and pink balloons with “Kate’s Bachelorette Party!” written on them but unfortunately, we couldn’t find any. Boo hoo!

Banner, party favours, invitation letter, cupcake toppers and door sign.

See how satisfied I was with my cupcake toppers? Heh. I also tried to make some of the foods served a bit fun, I called one of my canapés, Penis on the Cob. It’s basically just a cocktail hot dog with crab meat balls beside it.

Cheers! ♥
